Splendid Andre Derain

The great French painter Andre Dertain was a contemporary and friend of Matisse and Vlaminck and a founder of the “Fauvism” movement. This splendid oil is a classic Derain and belongs in a museum or fine collection. There are several stamps on the back including a WWII Nazi stamp on the frame that suggests it was seized by the Germans and repatriated after the war. It is not on the list of missing paintings which suggests it was returned to its owners and sold.
